FAQs
- How do I renew or cancel my subscription?
Visit the Traffic Alerts section under My Profile to manage your subscription.
- Surely sending me e-mail alerts while I drive is dangerous? Why is the AA promoting something that is so bad for road safety?
We have no way of knowing when you are driving, so it is not possible to time AA Traffic Alerts to only arrive when you are stationary. You should only read email or TXT alerts before you start driving, or when you are effectively stationary and out of the flow of traffic. You should never be sending or reading information on your mobile whilst you are driving your car.
- Where does the data come from?
Our traffic data is sourced from many suppliers, including Government, local authorities, radio stations, and the public (via *222).
- What if there is a recurring incident (e.g. Roadworks)?
You will be notified when the incident begins, and then you will be notified weekly. You can update your journeys to reflect any changes in the route you drive.

AA Traffic Alerts on your in-car navigation system
How it works
In order to receive AA Traffic for your car navigation device, you first need to purchase a compatible car navigation product. These are currently available for Navman devices, which are available from your favourite consumer electronics store. Some devices such as the My500XT come standard with a Lifetime Licence for AA Traffic. Others will require the purchase of a Traffic Kit accessory which will also feature a Lifetime Licence for AA Traffic.
Information comes into AA Traffic from a variety of services and is broadcast to your car navigation device using the RDS-TMC band on FM broadcast radio. The car navigation system uses GeoSmart Maps, especially configured to receive traffic information, based on your current location. The car navigation unit will give you an audible alert to tell you that there is an accident or incident in your way, providing you with details of what the problem is. It will then offer you the choice of taking a detour of an alternate route to bypass the problem.
Where it works
Currently the AA Traffic Alert service for in-car navigation systems is available in and around Greater Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. Over the coming months, additional locations throughout New Zealand will be added.
